Twitter n other things :)

My Twitter Link

Twitter Use in Future Teaching

The thought of social media and using it in my future classroom was a bit uncomfortable at first. The way my parent's raised me was that "you can't learn anything through phones and technology". With COVID-19 times and a new era of technology around us, my perspectives have changed completely to be more open-minded to the idea. The way I would use Twitter specifically in education and in my future classroom will be for many tools and resources. Twitter is filled with networks and people that can give access to many different educational resources for lesson ideas, important ted talks/videos and important links. It is also a great way to leave reviews and receive reviews from other teachers on twitter posts. As a teacher, we all know how important feedback is and when connecting with other local teachers or even ones from around the world, the comments that are left when a lesson plan or activity is posted will be very efficient and quick feedback.

Depending on the school, as each one is different, I would also use Twitter to connect with staff and parents. Sharing links to classroom blogs, student work, releasing field trip information, and much more. Parent's especially this would be a very simple way for them to be informed about everything that goes on in there child's classroom. Tweeting what needs to be done for homework and assignments would be a great form of communication for parents and students. Reminders of classroom tweets can be set on phones easily and families would be reminded to have a check-in with there kids on how schools going and what needs to be done. This is all great use of social media for those who have access to technology. For student's who do not have this pleasure will be difficult which is why I wouldn't use Twitter to share student surveys, feedback, or topics covered in class daily because it is unfair to require students who can't afford these luxuries to complete schoolwork through social media when there only resource is what is in the school and classroom. Only staff and parents, if the families have ways to connect through Twitter will be a great way to keep communication lines open, and if they do not have a way to connect through twitter that will still be okay because all students will still receive the learning in the classroom and resources provided by the school.

  1. Hey Adrienne! I love how you connected our current societies' situation (COVID-19) to how and why digital technologies can be so useful in our teaching practices. I appreciate all the detail that you put into writing this post. I also think you have a great point when you say some technologies might not be available to some students. It would be awesome if you could make your link live! :)
